LEARNING FROM THE LORD
Learning From The Lord
Scripture: “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” – Psalm 32:8 (KJV)
Life is full of decisions, both big and small, that shape our journey. Sometimes, we feel confident in the path ahead, but other times, we face uncertainty, doubt, and fear of making the wrong choices. In these moments, it is reassuring to know that we are not alone—God Himself promises to be our instructor and guide.
Psalm 32:8 is a powerful reminder that God doesn’t just send us on our way; He walks with us, leading us in the direction we should go. He lovingly watches over us, ensuring that we are not left wandering without guidance. Unlike human teachers who may give us knowledge but then leave us to figure things out, God remains present, patiently teaching us and showing us the right path.
I love that God’s guidance is personal. He knows exactly what we need, when we need it, and how best to direct us. His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), and He sees the full picture of our lives, even when we can’t.
His promise to guide us with His eye means that He is always aware of where we are and what is best for us. He is not a distant, uninvolved observer—He is an engaged and loving Father who desires to lead us into His perfect will.
However, learning from the Lord requires a willing and humble heart. Sometimes, His instruction may challenge and even convict us. He may ask us to step out in faith, to wait patiently, or to trust Him even when the road ahead seems unclear. His ways do not always align with our human logic, but they are always for our good.
Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” When we surrender our plans to Him, He makes our paths straight.
Think about how a loving parent teaches a child. They provide instruction, correction, encouragement, and protection. They do not simply tell the child what to do and then walk away—they remain involved, watching carefully to ensure their child stays safe and learns the right way. This is how God deals with us. He does not force His will upon us but patiently teaches us, guiding us step by step.
How Can We Learn from the Lord?
To truly benefit from God’s instruction, we must take intentional steps to hear and follow His guidance.
1. Seek Him Daily in His Word – The Bible is our ultimate source of wisdom and instruction. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Regularly reading and meditating on Scripture helps us align our thoughts with God’s truth.
2. Pray for His Direction – Prayer is a two-way conversation. When we bring our concerns, questions, and decisions to God, we must also take time to listen for His response. James 1:5 promises that if we ask for wisdom, God will give it generously.
3. Be Sensitive to the Holy Spirit – God often leads us through the prompting of the Holy Spirit. He may place a conviction on our hearts, open or close doors, or give us a deep sense of peace or caution. We must learn to recognize His voice and be obedient to His leading.
4. Trust Even When You Don’t Understand – God’s ways are sometimes beyond your understanding, but you must trust that He is always working for your good (Romans 8:28). Even when His guidance doesn’t make immediate sense, you can rest in the fact that He sees the whole picture.
5. Surround Yourself with Godly Counsel – Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Seeking advice from mature believers can help confirm God’s direction in our lives.
6. Be Willing to Obey – Sometimes, we hesitate to follow God’s leading because it challenges our comfort zones. But obedience is key to experiencing His best for our lives. When you step out in faith, He meets you there and provides exactly what you need.
Maybe today, you are facing a decision and don’t know which way to turn. Maybe you have been waiting on God’s guidance and feel like you haven’t heard an answer yet. Trust that He is still leading, even in the silence. His timing is perfect, and He is working behind the scenes in ways you cannot yet see.
Let this verse be a reminder that you are never alone. God is not just watching from a distance—He is actively involved in your life, guiding you every step of the way. Trust Him, listen for His instruction, and follow where He leads. His plans for you are always good, and His guidance is always sure.
