IF GOD BE FOR US

If God Be For Me

Life is full of challenges. There are moments when obstacles seem too big, setbacks feel overwhelming, and opposition comes from every direction. It’s easy to feel discouraged when things don’t go as planned. But in those moments of uncertainty, there is a powerful truth that provides strength and reassurance:

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”  Romans 8:31

So when Paul says, “What shall we then say to these things?”, he is referring to:

• The assurance that believers are no longer condemned.

• The power of the Holy Spirit working within us.

• The promise of future glory.

• The Spirit’s help in times of weakness.

• The truth that all things work together for good according to God’s purpose.

All of these truths lead to the triumphant declaration: If God is for us, who can be against us? This means that no opposition—whether from people, circumstances, or spiritual forces—can ultimately prevail against those whom God has chosen, justified, and glorified.

A reminder that, no matter what happens, believers are secure in Christ Jesus.

When Paul wrote these words in Romans, he wasn’t speaking to people who lived in comfort and ease. The early Christians faced persecution, rejection, and hardships beyond what many of us can imagine. Yet, Paul boldly declared that nothing could stand against them because God was with them.

This truth applies just as much to us today. Life brings its own share of struggles—whether it’s personal battles, financial hardships, health challenges, or moments of doubt. But if God is for us, then we are never truly alone, never without help, and never without hope.

So What Does It Mean for God to Be “For Us”?

The word “For here means, above, beyond, across, superior to, more than.

Many people wonder what it really means for God to be for them. Does it mean life will be easy? That every problem will disappear? Not necessarily. But it does mean:

1. We are on God’s side. You are not walking through life alone. Even when things feel uncertain, God is working behind the scenes on your behalf.

2. God is your protector. Challenges may come to you, but they will not overcome you. He shields, strengthens, and provides exactly what you need, when you need it.

Knowing that God is for us changes everything. It shifts our perspective from fear to faith, from worry to trust, and from defeat to victory.

The enemy tries to use fear to keep us from stepping into what God has for us. But Romans 8:31 reminds us that no enemy, no opposition, no hardship is greater than the God who stands with us.

I want you to believe today that nothing Can Separate you from God’s Love

Later in Romans 8, Paul goes on to say:

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:38-39

This means that no matter what happens, no matter what trial or difficulty we face, God’s love remains constant. He does not abandon His children. His presence is not conditional. Even in our weakest moments, He is there.

Life has seasons, times of abundance and times of struggle, moments of clarity and moments of confusion. Trusting that God is for you means believing that He is working in every season, not just the ones that feel easy.

• In the waiting season: He is preparing you.

• In the difficult season: He is strengthening you.

• In the victorious season: He is guiding you to greater purpose.

Each step of the journey is part of His plan. Even setbacks and failures can be used for good when placed in God’s hands. Romans 8:28 assures us of that.

Romans 8:31 is more than just a verse—it’s a promise. No matter what comes against you, it cannot overcome the power of God. No matter what challenges arise, they are no match for His strength. No matter what doubts try to take hold, the truth remains: If God is for you, nothing can stand against you.

So when fear tries to overwhelm you, remind yourself of this truth. When opposition comes, stand firm in faith. When uncertainty looms, trust that God is still in control.

The God who created the heavens and the earth is for you. He is guiding, protecting, and working on your behalf.

Rest in that truth, and move forward with confidence, knowing that nothing can stop God’s plans for your life.
