JUST ORDINARY PEOPLE
Just Ordinary People:
Have you ever felt like just another face in the crowd? Like you’re not quite special enough to make a difference in the world? If so, you’re not alone! Many struggle with feelings of inadequacy, but the beautiful message found in
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 reminds us that God has a unique purpose for each of us—especially those of us who consider ourselves “ordinary.”
In this passage, the Apostle Paul writes,
1 Corinthians 1:26-29
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
Paul’s words bring to light a powerful truth: God delights in using the ordinary to achieve the extraordinary. That does not mean that He never calls the powerful, or the highly educated to do great things for him. the passage relates more to how we see ourselves rather than what we possess. He is always looking for the humble. That it why He chooses everyday people, the ones who might feel overlooked or underestimated. Imagine the joy in that! It means that you don’t have to be a superstar to make a difference; you just have to be you!
The world tries to mold people into this glamours image that is the signature of success. God never wanted us to go to such great lengths to make ourselves like other people. Just be you, that is who God is looking for.
Consider the countless stories throughout Scripture where God chose the “least likely” candidates for His purposes. From the shepherds at the birth of Jesus, Shepherds like David, fishermen like Peter, and even the writer of 1 Corinthians, Paul, these individuals were not defined by their status or wisdom but by their willingness to respond to God’s call. This is a joyful reminder that our value is not rooted in our achievements or accolades but in our identity as the children of God.
When we embrace our “ordinary,” we open ourselves up to a life filled with purpose and joy. The beauty of living in this truth is that it frees us from the burden of perfection and comparison. We can celebrate our unique gifts and talents, no matter how small they may seem. Whether you’re a teacher, a caregiver, an artist, or someone who simply shares a smile with a stranger, your contributions matter!
As Paul continues, “He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” When we embrace our ordinary selves, we become vessels of God’s grace and love. We reflect His glory in our humility, and that’s something worth focusing on!
So, the next time you find yourself feeling like just another ordinary person in a bustling world, remember this: God has chosen you for a purpose! He’s ready to use your unique story, your talents, and even your struggles to shine His light in ways you might never expect.
Today, Embrace your calling, and let your joy overflow as you enjoy your beautiful journey of faith. After all, in God’s hands, the ordinary becomes extraordinary!
