THE UNCERTAINTY OF MOVING FORWARD

THE UNCERTAINTY OF MOVING FORWARD

“For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward.” – Isaiah 52:12 (KJV)

Life often tempts us to move in haste, rushing through decisions, anxiously seeking solutions, and fearing what lies ahead. However, Isaiah this verse reminds us that God calls His people to move forward not in panic or fear, but in trust and confidence, knowing He both leads the way and protects from behind.

The first part of this verse tells us, “the LORD will go before you.” This is a powerful assurance that God is already preparing the path ahead for you.

When the Israelites left Egypt, they didn’t have to scramble in uncertainty; God led them with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22). Similarly, in our own lives, God goes before us, clearing obstacles, opening doors, and making a way where there seems to be none.

Sometimes, we don’t see the full picture. We may question why things aren’t happening as quickly as we want them to. But here we are reminded  that God’s timing is perfect. He calls us to walk in step with Him, not ahead of Him.

The verse also declares, “the God of Israel will be your rereward.” The word means ( “rear guard”) comes from military terminology, referring to the troops that protect the back of an army. This means God is not only leading the way, but He is also covering your past and protecting you from behind.

Think about how the Israelites were pursued by Pharaoh’s army as they left Egypt. Just as they felt trapped between the Red Sea and their enemies, God stood behind them as their defender. He placed a pillar of cloud between them and Pharaoh’s army, shielding them from danger (Exodus 14:19-20).

God does the same for us today. Our past failures, regrets, and the enemy’s schemes cannot overtake us because God stands as our rear guard. We don’t have to live in fear of what’s behind us, we can move forward in faith.

Walking in Trust, Not in Haste.

The phrase “ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight” is a call to trust rather than panic. Too often, we make rushed decisions based on fear, impatience, or pressure from the world around us. But God tells us not to move in haste, because when He is in control, there is no need to run in fear.

This verse encourages us to:

Trust God’s timing – He is never late or early; He knows when the time is right.

Move with confidence – If God is leading, we don’t have to scramble or stress.

Rest in His protection – He is both our guide and our defender.

Today God gives you this powerful reminder that when He calls you to step forward, you do so not in fear or haste, but in faith. Today, whether you are facing an important decision, a season of waiting, or uncertainty about the future, take a moment and remind yourself that God goes before you, and He protects behind you. You are not alone, and you don’t need to rush. Walk in His timing, knowing that He is leading the way.

Be Safe, Be Strong, and Be Blessed
