THE DANFER OF FOLLOWING FADS
The Danger of Following Fads
Ephesians 4:9-12
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
One of the great pleasures in my ministry and the work that God has called me to do throughout my life in some 20 plus years right now in the ministry has always been fixed on one specific principle, and that is to help people through the Word of God get into the right position that they might realize their purpose in life. But one thing I know that God has called me to do and that is to take the Word of God and to show people each and every day how to build a better life through building a better relationship with Jesus Christ the Lord. And in Ephesians chapter 4, Paul talks about Jesus Christ and the reason why he came and the whole body of the work of God is tied up in these verses.
When he says, He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens that he might fill all things. And he gave some apostles and some prophets, some evangelists and some pastors and teachers. But now listen to why he did that, “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ”. And that is really the essence of ministry right there, is to build people up in their faith so that they can become faithful servants of the Lord. I know we live in a lifestyle right now and a culture where people are constantly craving entertainment. Even in the local church, they just want the latest and the flashiest thing. They want to chase after different things.
But God did not call us to do that. God called us to build our lives on the Word. Not on flashy things, not on the latest fads, but on the Word of God.
And that is the essence of building a strong relationship with Christ. It's all about teamwork. It's not about one individual or another individual.
When one person succeeds, we all should succeed because God calls us to be fitly joined together in the body of Christ. That's why in the Gospel of John, when Jesus is talking about how we are the branches off of the vine, we have to look at the Christian work as a vine, not just an individual plant. We are supposed to spread, we're supposed to embrace each other in edifying, lifting one another up so that we can all succeed in the Gospel.
We need to pray for one another and lift one another up and edify one another in the body of Christ. Because this work is so important. Right now, the Lord Jesus Christ is preparing all things upon the earth for His return, and if the church isn't focused on that, if we're focused on being entertained, or we're focused on the latest and greatest thing that's coming along in religion, we're going to miss all the signs and all the wonders that the Lord has for us in this season of our life.
I pray and speak that blessing over you today, that no matter what you do in your life, don't chase fads, chase faithfulness, chase the favor of God and the fire of God and the presence of God in your life. If you can do that, you will realize why you're here and the mighty purpose that God has for you.
So today I pray that you're safe, that you're strong, and that you're always blessed. And I pray that you will always remember, it takes all of us to navigate through this season in our lives. And Jesus Christ must be at the helm.
He must be allowed to lead us into everything that we do. Have a great day.
